My boss pulled me to the side and said, "We need to talk." I later found out the reason for this covert comment.
"You're not taking Val to go see family for your honeymoon, are you? I did that, and haven't heard the end of it."
I proceeded to explain that I wasn't sure if it really would be a honeymoon or not, and that since we were planning some sort of more exotic vacation after graduation, it probably didn't matter.
"Well....just be sure you call that one the honeymoon."
But, alas, we did, and had a blast. Throughout the week, we discussed whether we really considered it a honeymoon or not. It was fun telling people that the visit may or may not be our honeymoon, depending on how we felt about it at the end of the week.
It was fun being back in my hometown, although it was a bit more work than I expected. My family was reroofing the back part of our house, so I ended up tarring and roofing and nailing for the better part of two evenings. The next evening was my sister's wedding, which was outside, and in dire need of seating for 250 people. Thus, I and the groomsmen, and other gracious members of our family helped move chairs out through the maze that is our church and onto a trailer that we knew we would have to load again in a few short hours.
I did play Bebo Norman's "A page is turned" at the ceremony, and barely kept from crying onstage during the second verse.
I also got to see my few close friends from Enid, most for shorter periods of time than I would have liked.
All in all, it was a very much needed break from the over-worked summer we've both had. At the end of it, we turned to each other and stated what has become our mantra since our marriage: "Life is good." I hope that I can always say that.

Call it "honeymoon" or not, we were glad you were able to come. The song at the wedding was perfect. Dad and I both commented on how happy you two seem. And how Val seemed to open up. Dad brags to everyone about how Val just pitches in and helps with anything going on. I think the first time you brought her home, she helped load the truck for a trip to the dump. This time she climbed up on the roof and joined right in the fun! You chose a wonderful girl (or she chose you?, or a little of both).(she was a big help with the wedding, too!) MOM
I almost lost it on the same part you did while you were singing about Beth and her big heart and her big smile. What am I saying! I totally lost it! You did so good! Everything was so beautiful and I really enjoyed the time we got to spend with you and Val. No, it never is enough time!
